Cobalt blue
Cobalt blue is an artificially produced, mineral pigment with a bright luminous blue color. The pigment is unusually lightfast. The cobalt blue color traces far back in time to Persia and Egypt, but was developed in a European context in the early 1800s.
The color has previously been widely used in the glass and porcelain industry as well as the paper industry (for bleaching paper.)
Due to its high price, the pigment has had limited use in the field of painting, but has been much more widespread in art painting.
Cobalt blue is light, - oil, - water, - and calcareous.
