Indian Yellow PR83 (Diarylide)
Indian Yellow is an ancient dye whose origin and chemical composition are unknown. Legend has it, however, that the color was originally made from urine from cows that had been fed mango leaves. Around the 1900s, the color mysteriously disappears from the market, and the original dye has still not been rediscovered. Indian Yellow is today often made from the pigment Diarylide PR83, as it, in hue, color power and in its luminous intensity, comes very close to the original color.
William Turner used Indian Yellow extensively to achieve his famous intense sunrises.
